When is spring break in Bulgaria?

For the 2026/2027 school year, pupils in grades I–XI have spring break from Saturday, 3 April to Sunday, 11 April 2027. The break lasts nine calendar days, including the weekends within that period.

These dates come from Ministry of Education order No RD09-3345/31.08.2026. For families arranging a holiday or time together in Bulgaria, the key distinction is the pupil’s grade: the main spring break dates do not apply to the final year.

A shorter break for final-year pupils

Grade XII pupils have spring break from Thursday, 8 April to Sunday, 11 April 2027. Their break lasts four calendar days, rather than the nine days scheduled for grades I–XI.

Both groups finish their spring break on the same Sunday, but final-year pupils start later. Families with children in different grades should use the separate date ranges when planning shared time away. The period covered by both spring breaks is 8–11 April.

Do working parents get time off?

School breaks are not days off for working parents. The spring break calendar sets out when pupils are away from school; it does not provide a corresponding break from work for their parents.

Parents who want to take time off during the school break take leave under the general rules. When arranging leave, use the dates for the relevant grade rather than assuming that all pupils have the same spring holiday.

Other dates to keep in mind

The school year also includes autumn, Christmas and interterm breaks for grades I–XII. Of those breaks, Christmas is the longest at eleven calendar days, while autumn lasts three and the interterm break lasts four.

After the April spring break, Wednesday, 5 May and Friday, 7 May 2027 are additional non-school days for grades I–XI. These are separate from the spring break period, and the listed May arrangements do not include grade XII.

For leave planning, keep these additional non-school dates separate from the April holiday. The same distinction between a school break and parental leave remains important: time away from school is not automatically time off work.
