Find holidays and days off in Bulgaria

PublicHolidays.bg brings together Bulgarian public, church and folk holidays, alongside days off, working days and school breaks. The yearly days-off calendars cover 2023–2027, while the monthly calendar provides a month-by-month view.

For work and travel planning, start with the public holidays and days-off calendar. Other sections cover international days, regional and professional holidays, and folk traditions. These categories are separate from the official public holidays and should not be treated as a list of days off.

How public holiday days off work

Article 154 of the Labour Code sets out Bulgaria’s official public holidays and days off. They include fixed dates throughout the year, the Christmas holidays on 24, 25 and 26 December, and the Easter period from Good Friday through Easter Monday.

When a fixed public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the first working day after it is a day off. Easter days are not compensated. This distinction matters when checking whether a holiday creates a longer break from work.

The Council of Ministers may also declare one-off extra non-working days by decision. Meanwhile, 1 November is a non-attendance day only for educational institutions, rather than a general day off.

Plan working time and annual leave

The standard working week in Bulgaria runs from Monday to Friday, with 8 hours of work a day. The working days calculator and leave planner provide tools for planning working time and leave alongside the holiday calendars.

In 2026, there are 248 working days and 117 days off. In 2027, there are 249 working days and 116 days off. Orthodox Easter falls on 12 April in 2026 and 2 May in 2027, so the Easter break comes in different months across these years.

Check school breaks and other observances

School breaks have their own section, separate from the public holiday calendar. For plans involving education, consult that section alongside the days-off calendar and the rule for 1 November.

The church calendar and folk traditions sections cover observances beyond the statutory days off. To explore a particular occasion, use search or the today’s holiday section. The site also has individual articles for 80 holidays.
