What does the working days calculator show?
The calculator counts working days, days off and holidays between two dates, and provides a monthly table. This gives foreign residents, expats and visitors a way to compare periods when planning work, leave or a holiday in Bulgaria.
The standard working week is Monday to Friday, with 8 working hours a day. Working-hour totals are calculated by multiplying the number of working days by 8. For shift work, part-time work or other arrangements, the actual schedule is set by the employer.
How public holidays affect working days
Article 154 of the Labour Code sets out Bulgaria’s official public holidays and days off. These include fixed-date holidays throughout the year, the December holidays and the Easter break from Good Friday through Easter Monday.
When a fixed public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the first working day after it is a day off. Easter days are not compensated, so the same replacement-day rule does not apply to them.
The Council of Ministers may declare one-off extra non-working days by decision. Another distinction matters when reading the calendar: 1 November is a non-attendance day only for educational institutions, not a general day off.
Working days in 2026
The 2026 totals are 248 working days, equivalent to 1984 working hours, and 117 days off. Monthly totals vary, so the annual figure alone does not show how much working time falls within a particular month.
May has the fewest working days: 18, or 144 hours, alongside 13 days off. July has the most, with 23 working days and 184 hours. June and October also have relatively high totals, at 22 working days each.
Working days in 2027
For 2027, the totals are 249 working days, 1992 working hours and 116 days off. May again has the fewest working days, with 17 working days, 136 hours and 14 days off.
The highest monthly total is 22 working days, shared by March, June, July, August and November. January and December each have 20 working days and 11 days off. Use the monthly breakdown to compare these periods, while keeping an employer-set schedule in mind where it differs from the standard working week.
