When is the interterm break?
The interterm break for the 2026/2027 school year runs from Saturday, 30 January 2027, through Tuesday, 2 February 2027. It lasts four calendar days and applies to all pupils in grades I–XII.
The break includes a weekend followed by Monday and Tuesday. For families planning around school attendance, the important point is that this is a four-day period without school, rather than four weekdays away from classes.
The dates are set out in Ministry of Education order No RD09-3345/31.08.2026. This is the source for the school break dates shown on this page.
Do working parents get time off?
School breaks are not days off for working parents. The interterm break changes the school schedule, but it does not itself provide parents with leave from work.
Parents who need time away from work during the break take leave under the general rules. When arranging a family holiday or time at home with children, keep the school dates separate from any leave arrangements.
The distinction matters when planning the Monday and Tuesday within this break: both are included in the school holiday, but the school calendar does not make them days off for working parents.
Religious holidays during the break
Two religious holidays fall within the interterm break. St Trifon’s Day is on Monday, 1 February 2027, and the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple is on Tuesday, 2 February 2027.
These observances are listed as religious holidays. Their inclusion alongside the school break should not be read as an entitlement to time off work for parents.
How does it compare with other breaks?
The interterm break is shorter than the Christmas break, which lasts 11 calendar days, and longer than the three-day autumn break.
Unlike spring break, the interterm dates are the same for all grades. Spring break lasts nine calendar days for grades I–XI, while final-year pupils in grade XII have a shorter, four-day break.
