When is the autumn school break?

The autumn break for the 2026/2027 school year runs from Saturday, 31 October to Monday, 2 November 2026, inclusive. It lasts three calendar days and applies to all pupils in grades I–XII.

The dates come from Ministry of Education order No RD09-3345/31.08.2026. For families planning around the school calendar, the important distinction is that this is a three-day school break spanning Saturday, Sunday and Monday, rather than three weekdays away from school.

Which holiday falls during the break?

Day of the Bulgarian Enlighteners falls on Sunday, 1 November 2026, within the autumn break. It honours Bulgarian educators, writers and figures of the National Revival.

This observance is a school holiday and a non-school day, not a general public day off. Its appearance in the holiday calendar therefore does not mean that working residents or visitors should treat it as a day off work.

Do working parents get time off?

School breaks are not days off for working parents. Parents who need leave during the autumn break take it under the general rules; the school calendar does not itself provide time away from work.

When arranging a family holiday or time at home, keep the school dates separate from work leave arrangements. Monday, 2 November is included in the pupils’ break, but the break should not be read as a general public holiday period.

How does autumn compare with other breaks?

Autumn is the shortest of the scheduled school breaks listed for 2026/2027. Christmas provides the longest break, at eleven calendar days, while the interterm break lasts four days. Both, like autumn, apply to grades I–XII.

Spring arrangements differ by grade: pupils in grades I–XI have nine calendar days off, while those in grade XII have four. Unlike spring, the autumn break has the same dates and length for every grade.
